Whitewater Rafting Adventures in El Chalten

  • Experience an epic & exciting Patagonian whitewater rafting adventure

A unique blend of excitement, adrenaline and dreamy unspoiled nature awaits you on this Patagonian whitewater rafting experience as you ride rapids through frothy waters with Mount Fitz Roy firmly in the background, standing tall.

We’ll paddle through rapids which can reach category III, admiring stunning geological faults carved out by the flow of the river itself, along with crisp clean air, making this a natural haven and a perfect scenario for a rafting experience which the thrill‑seeker and the nature enthusiast will enjoy alike.

Our day begins at the Rafting base of operations (which is at walking distance from your hotel). Our tour guides will train us on the fundamentals of paddling (you don’t need any past rafting experience to enjoy this tour). We’ll then gear up: you’ll be given a thermal dry suit, helmet, life jacket and neoprene boots. Once ready and fully-dressed, we’ll make our way to the rafts for a brief technical talk about safety and rafting; we’ll practice rowing techniques, and will be ready to start on our whitewater adventure!

This two-hour rafting adventure traverses calm waters as well as category III rapids. The first leg of our watery journey takes us down Rio de las Vueltas for approximately 10 miles (16 kilometers), for a gentle glide down this body of water, and allowing time to pick up some more pointers on paddling. After that, we’ll shift gears on to more rapid waters, where we’ll both pay attention to our guide - who’ll indicate what we need to do to keep a true course - and bask at the unique sedimentary formations that make up this beautifully carved-out canyon. The second leg moves onto faster waters; thrilling fun will ensue as the raft bobs up and down during the next 5 miles (8 kilometers). Finally, a last stretch of 1.5 miles (2 kilometers) of calm waters will accompany you and your team, as you enjoy the natural setting around you.

At the end of the tour, a vehicle will be ready to take us back to El Chaltén, after a day of breathing in the natural Patagonian landscape, and having conquered the mighty Patagonian rapids!
