Witness the Unique Power & Might of the Iguazu Falls from the Argentine Side (private tour)
- The Iguazu Falls have been voted one of the New 7 Wonders of the World by over 100 million people
“You might have seen the photos. Even read about it. You might have visited other great waterfalls before. But you probably still have no idea what to expect when you come face to face with the almighty Iguazu Falls,” stated CNN in their article “Iguazu Falls: Why this natural wonder should be on everyone’s bucket list". To put that into perspective, Iguazu Falls is nearly twice as tall as Niagara Falls and nearly three times as wide. The late U.S. First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, was reportedly so impressed by the sight of Iguazu Falls that she exclaimed “Poor Niagara!”
Their size and scale are unlike any other waterfall on Earth. Made up of a system of 275 waterfalls, they have a staggering water flow of up to 3.5 million gallons (13 million liters) per second – enough to fill five Olympic swimming pools!
In 1984, Iguazu Falls became a UNESCO World Heritage Site; and in 2011, it was selected as one of the 7 winners of the “New Seven Wonders of Nature” worldwide competition in which more than 100 million votes were cast.
Unlike Niagara Falls, which is surrounded by developments such as casinos, a revolving restaurant, and coffee shops; the Iguazu Falls are located within one of the few remaining inland rainforests in South America - the Atlantic rainforest - which is a haven for more than 2,000 plant species, about 400 species of birds, and 80 types of mammals.
The magnificent size and sheer beauty of the Iguazu Falls was the natural set of some of Hollywood’s major productions, such as “Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull,” as well as “The Mission,” starring Jeremy Irons and the legendary Robert De Niro.
With 80% of the falls located on the Argentine side, there’s plenty a chance to get intimate with the falls - and get soaked in the process!
This tour starts in the morning when we arrive at Iguazu National Park to board the ecological train, which will take us into the rainforest. Our ride will last approximately 25 minutes, until we reach the 0.7 mile (1100 meters) footbridge, which will take us to the imposing “Garganta del Diablo” (The Devil’s Throat). The Devil’s Throat is the largest water curtain of Iguazu Falls, and is so named for the thunderous, deep roar of the falls as they fall from a 260 foot tall (80 meter) precipice, hitting the rocks below and creating a mist so dense that the bottom of Devil’s Throat cannot be seen! You’ll use the same boardwalk to return from the Devil’s Throat area, so the total walked distance will be 1.4 mile (2200 meters)
We’ll next head to the Upper Circuit, which is made up of 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) worth of footbridges running along the upper rim of the falls. Get ready to be treated to some breathtaking panoramic views of the falls! You’ll actually see the falls from above, from many viewpoints, with the waters cascading down into the abyss, practically from under your feet. At certain points, you can stand and get enveloped by more than 30 falls!
The next part of our tour takes us to the Lower Circuit, which has approximately the same length as the Upper Circuit; except there, you’ll traverse the falls from below. From these footbridges, you’ll be able to enjoy the most close-up views possible of the falls, ending in a panoramic balcony just a few feet away from the imposing Bosetti Falls. Standing there, with a huge wall of water so close, will no doubt make you feel small against the magnificence of nature!
After an exciting and full day of nature, boardwalks and obviously picture-taking, you’ll understand why CNN and over 100 million voters throughout the world have defined Iguazu Falls as a must-see attraction… no to be missed in your lifetime!
Since you’ll be doing this tour with your own private vehicle and guide, you’ll be able to enjoy each attraction at your own pace; making all the stops you want, all the while enjoying personalized assistance and care from your expert guide. You’ll also enjoy more convenient and faster transfers to and from your hotel, as there will be no other travelers to pick up or drop off at other hotels.
Important: the tour’s exact itinerary and duration may change subject to weather conditions and decisions of the tour guide to optimize your tour experience.
