All about the Largest Dinosaurs that Ever Lived: Patagonian Paleontology Museum

  • Fossils of the largest carnivorous dinosaur in the world were found in Patagonia

Millions of years ago, Patagonia was a subtropical rain forest filled with dinosaurs, including one of the largest creatures ever to walk the Earth: “Given the size of these bones, which surpass any of the previously known giant animals, the new dinosaur is the largest animal known that walked on Earth,” reported the BBC about a new species of titanosaur, unearthed in Argentina. This dinosaur was about 65 feet (20 meters) high – equal to a seven-story building - and would have weighed 77 tons (the equivalent to approximately 14 elephants), making it seven tons heavier than the previous world record holder, Argentinosaurus (also to have been found in Argentina).

On January 15 of 2016, the American Museum of Natural History in New York unveiled the cast of the 122-foot-long Argentine titanosaur in an exhibit, unique in the world.

The Patagonian soil was also where the “Carolinii” dinosaur was found. Considered the largest carnivorous dinosaur in the world, it surpasses the famous Tyrannosaurus Rex in size.

This paleontological experience will bring us to the Egidio Feruglio Museum, one of the most important scientific institutions in Argentina; as well as an undisputed international reference in paleontology. Showcasing the important fossil finds in Patagonia, this natural history museum offers outstanding life-size dinosaur exhibits and more than 1700 fossil remains of plant and marine life. Other highlights include a 290-million-year-old spider fossil with a 3-foot leg span, and the 70-million-year-old petrified eggs of Carnotaurus.
